.455 the creativity project :: behind or under glass

our dining room is full of glass.

tables...mirrors...display cases and shelving units holding even more pieces of glass:

wine glasses, fruit bowls, glass trinkets shaped like flowers, a wall made of glass, even the dining room table is rod iron, and you guessed it...glass.

but

since all of it needed to be dusted (only realized when i peered through my lens)...i quickly cleaned the easiest pieces to clean, and shot those instead.
(i have a three year old. cleaning is my full-time job. no thank you to over-time)

also:

i have no idea if it's the literary part of me that takes each theme so...literal, but as i was combing through images, instead of going with the theme as it was written...i was pulled to focus more on the subject matter as i never really shoot - glass. because of this month's challenge theme, i think i want to explore this arena a little more because it's just so darn pretty.

i bet with the right lighting and different color glass...

(((beams)))

*my mind is twirling with possibility*

the next photographer in our circle is one of my personal favs and personal friends, as well.

also, her post is almost the exact the post i was going to do (from behind my car window) so i was extremely excited when i saw it. it's the perfect blend of street photography and candid portraits, both of which she excels at. she is extremely gifted at capturing the human spirit (little people especially) and this post is just another example of why.

please visit the effervescent becky adams at lifewithkaishon.com and welcome her into your he(art)s like i have done mines :)

.454 the creativity project :: storytelling

i grew up in a household where words were worth more than gold (both parents were writers), thus reading became everyone's favorite past time by default. thus, for this month's theme, i chose to dig through my figurative photo crates and pull out pictures of everything surrounding my favorite art form (surprise: not photography) and search for all things book related...

i do the same thing (and told him so)...when something is so greatly written, i have to write it down.
it will either serve as inspiration...or a really great quote.

please visit one of my favorite 'photography mothers', singwa lim, at buckeroomama to see her take on this month's theme.
there is magic and wonder in the eyes of her children and she does a beautiful job at capturing it in their daily lives.

.453 the creativity project: treasure

almost three years since an aneurysm exploded in my brain.

since that time, life has shifted so dramatically from what it once was, i've hardly had time to process the change accordingly. toots was only two months when it happened, so i was novel to new motherhood and didn't put much effort towards my recovery when i came home.

a year into said recovery, i lost my father, so needless to say, my quest to building back my health, once again, fell to the back of my mind (no pun intended) and my migraines returned.

after a recent hospital stay, due to an infection in my brain, i am once again faced with taking my health, and overall survival with my condition, more seriously. so, this month's challenge of 'treasure' hit home for me in a different way, because my values have changed.

as the people who love me most surrounded me, i felt a new shift arrive in my world. a simpler shift. because frankly put: i simply treasure...life. i treasure love. i  treasure joy. i treasure my family and friends who have supported and loved me throughout this journey every step of the way, and continues to. i treasure noticing the simple things in life that brings me and everyone around me, happiness

there was this window in my hospital room that i noticed everyone kept stopping to stand by. and while i could easily chop it up to the view, i'd like to think it was something else, something deeper calling to them. because every time someone lingered there, i caught a glimpse of them disappearing into a world where this world didn't belong. a world where just their thoughts, their memories, their prayers existed and i treasured getting to secretly capture those moments, happily, and healthily, recovering from my hospital bed.

*update: i have more angio coming up to see what's going on in this wonky brain of mine.
afterwards, if all checks out, i will treasure taking the time to recover properly, this time around.

.452 the creativity project :: umbrellas

nope. i've got nothing.

let me explain: i went out for some street canvassing and it seemed no one was carrying an umbrella. heck, i wasn't even carrying one and i was carrying a camera.

then, i thought, i'll just wait until the next day it rains. but, as life goes (or luck will have it) "something came up" and you guessed it: i missed my moment.

then, i thought, i'll just take a picture with my toddler and one of her umbrellas and welp, as three year old moods will have it, she wasn't having it, thus, this was all i got before tantrums and emergency nap times kicked in.

so, here you have it. experimental lighting and a dora umbrella folks.

*eek*

(i promise to do better next month)

.450 when life gives you lemons

second day shooting the same stupid lemon in natural lighting...
(but toots makes everything extraordinary, so i'm happy)

and in the end, i wounded up with 4 shots for my promo package that i will actually use.
the one i added below is a throw-a-way, but i like it, still.
(i root for the underdog...even in photos)

.449 mon petit bébé est un enfant de trois ans

a blizzard on her birthday postponed any pre-proposed plans for festivities.
we declared it a pampering no "no" day and simply made it all about her.
